The Rise Up Music Project is a year-long solo collaboration between six musicians. Each will write, record and share one new original song every week for one year, beginning Jan. 1, 2019. Joined every Monday by a new guest contributor, we will together create and release 365 songs in 365 days.
Based on a belief in the power of personal storytelling and shared understanding as forms of activism, we will use our art to give a window into what it means to be ourselves here and now, a week at a time. And if we write with intention, our art will be a tool for liberation.
We post each recording along with a brief introduction to the song, discussing the inspiration, our thoughts or mindset, the meaning or the challenges involved -- anything to provide context to each song. Each song and its introduction are then released as a daily podcast, and each is available to stream on the Rise Up Music site.
The recording quality varies based on whatever that week is like -- raw or polished, played live into an iPhone or layered in a studio, a capella or all instrumental.
In the end, we will have created something beautiful and impactful, a finished project with layers of meaning. We will have collectively produced a musical score for the year, as well as six individual year-long visions through our stand-alone collections of 50-plus songs.
All songs are released digitally as monthly compilation albums on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, and all major/minor music platforms. Artists own all their songs, all their music, all their recordings.
