Matt Halvorson is a writer, musician, activist and father, among other things. He writes and manages a blog about equity in education called Rise Up for Students, and spent time in Ferguson supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and in Standing Rock opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline. A veteran of the Big Ideas and the Fargo South High School Symphonic Band, Halvorson’s solo music tends to be an exploration of identity shout-sung over a piano. He founded and continues to manage the Rise Up Music Project with love. His debut album, “Sermons,” is due out momentarily.
