12/12/25: "Everything Looks Different When You’re Home" by Cape Disappointment

Cape Disappointment is the moniker for Seattle-based songwriter, Jeffrey P. Martin. He writes “raw, honest, stripped-down” songs about places, loss, love, and life. He’s been playing all over the country for more than a decade. Everywhere from New York to Seattle. He released a new song on the 12th of every month in 2025, and his song for today is called “Everything Looks Different You’re Home.”

Going home ain’t what it used to be

I don’t recognize any of these things

All my favorite places are gone

Everything looks different when I’m home

Driving down the streets, I thought I knew

I don’t recognize those avenues

Places that I used to love

It all looks different when you’re home

In my head, I think what I think is real

In my heart, I know what I feel

Whenever I go back to my hometown

Everything looks different when you’ve been gone too long
